On the morning of April 26, Professors Shao Liang and Wu Huihui led 25 first- and second-year students from the Home Design Department of Pan Tianshou College of Art, Ningbo University to Ningbo Huaye Fiber Technology Co., Ltd. (Old Craftsman) for a groundbreaking off-campus class. This marked the first official session following the formal signing of the industry-academia collaboration agreement between the college and Old Craftsman in April, signifying a substantive step forward in their partnership.
During the session, Intangible Cultural Heritage Representative Inheritor Weng Shiguo showcased handwoven bamboo bracelets and weaving materials. Students demonstrated keen interest in traditional craftsmanship, with many expressing eagerness to apprentice under Master Weng.
General Manager Jin of the company also engaged students in a lively discussion on bridging academic learning with corporate and societal needs, addressing topics such as career alignment and practical skill development. The interactive atmosphere left students remarking on the invaluable insights gained.
Professor Shao Liang emphasized the core objective of the collaboration: "Integrating the university’s design resources and students’ creativity with the enterprise’s R&D and production capabilities to achieve complementary strengths and ensure knowledge translates into real-world applications."
As the partnership between Pan Tianshou College of Art, Ningbo University and Ningbo Huaye Fiber Technology Co., Ltd. deepens, it is poised to deliver significant benefits for both students and the company, fostering innovation while preserving traditional craftsmanship.
